About the Program

Jack Birnbach, CPADeveloping a personal and family budget is one of the most important steps in achieving your goals. Goals and budgets are not a one time or once a year endeavor. It is a tool to create success as you define it. Without a budget, families are at risk for possible economic chaos, much of which can be planned for, avoided or minimized. Getting your personal financial house in order is a key beginning step in readying yourself for those who want to start a business.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Create budgets as a life planning tool
  • Understand risk factors that can impact your budgets and plans
  • Develop strategies to increase the likelihood that your budgets will be successful
  • Physically create budget schedules
  • Determine what to do when budget results do not equal planned targets
  • Look at income and expenses as well as asset and liability budgets
  • Determine which tools will be useful in managing and maintaining your budgets 

About the Presenter

Jack Birnbach is a retired Certified Public Accountant (CPA), chief financial officer and controller of several Portland-area small-to-medium sized businesses. He also served on the American Institute of CPAs Group of 100, whose purpose is to uncover and prioritize emerging issues for the nearly 400,000 CPAs in the United States. Jack has spoken on personal financial issues to various business and citizen groups in Portland.

He is an active volunteer at Portland’s Dress For Success whose purpose is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
